Chitosan
Chitosan wound dressing consists of 100%
chitosan fibres. Chitosan is a naturally
occurring starch (polymer)derived from
the shells of crustaceans. It is a soft, highly
absorbent dressing which gel when in
contact with wound exudates and provide
moist environment for optimum healing.

absorbency and gelling characteristics
similar to carboxymethyl cellulose but with
additional benefits of being haemostatic
and bacteriostatic are important to wound
healing process.
Indications:
Chitosan wound dressing can be used in the management of moderate to heavily
exuding chronic and acute wounds, and may be used to control minor bleeding in
superficial wounds.

Venous leg ulcers
Diabetic foot ulcers
Cavity wounds
Donor sites and graft sites
Surgical wounds (e.g. postoperative wounds
left to heal by secondary intention)
Skin abrasions and lacerations
Superficial and partial-thickness burns
Exudate absorption in oncology wounds (e.g.
fungating cutaneous tumours, cutaneous
metastases and Kaposi's sarcomas).
