Alginate wound dressing is a sterile nonwoven calcium/sodium alginate wound dressing consisting of a high gelling strength alginate. The Alginate wound dressing is highly absorbent, conformable and wet integral. As wound exudate is absorbed the alginate forms a gel, which assists in maintaining a moist environment for optimal wound healing, aids autolytic debridement, and allows intact removal.
Alginate wound dressing is indicated for the management of moderately to heavily exuding wounds, and to control minor bleeding in superficial wounds.
Chronic wounds:

•Leg ulcers
•Venous and arterial ulcers
•Diabetic ulcers
Superficial acute wounds:
•Lacerations
•Lacerations
•Graft wounds and donor sites
Other indications include post-operative surgical wounds, trauma wounds, cavity wounds, superficial burns and partial thickness burns. The dressings can be used under compression bandages. It is also suitable for use under medical supervision, in the management of infected wounds or wounds in which there is an increased risk of infection.
